Samco Machinery in Canada has been awarded a major rollforming business by Tata Ryerson India for Tata Motor's People's Car "Tata Nano".
The People's Car has created a lot of buzz in India because it is only costing one lakh or 100,000 rupees which is equivalent to $2,500 U.S. It is being made for 300 million middle class Indians who currently drive scooters.
Tata motors is the largest OEM in India with revenues of $7.2 billion and is part of the Tata conglomerate with revenues of $22 billion US annually.
Samco will provide a complete roll forming system to make 6 major chassis parts for Tata Nano. This roll forming production system includes 10,000 lb. double uncoiler, a 50 ton pre punch press, a 30 ton flying cut off press, a 18 pass rollformer, 5 stretch benders, two130 ton mechanical presses, 2 multiple punching presses and 2 flange notching presses.
It is one of the largest orders Samco had in its automotive part of the business. Samco Machinery is one of the leading suppliers of rollforming solutions in North America to the automotive industry for over 35 years.
